USD/SGD Range-Bound with Limited Upside Momentum

According to a report published on October 27, 2026, by United Overseas Bank (UOB), the Singapore Dollar (SGD) remains range-bound against the US Dollar (USD) with a bias that limits significant directional moves. The USD/SGD currency pair extended higher than previously anticipated, reaching a high of 1.2814, surpassing the prior intraday range. Despite this rise, UOB notes that short-term momentum suggests only a modest scope for the pair to test levels above 1.2820, with gains beyond this point expected to be limited.

UOB’s analysis indicates that over the coming weeks, USD/SGD is likely to remain confined within a range between 1.2775 and 1.2835. The bank highlights that an upside breakout would require a clear breach of 1.2871, which currently appears unlikely given prevailing momentum. Support levels are identified at 1.2800 and 1.2790, while resistance is noted at 1.2835, with the next resistance level above that less likely to be tested in the near term.

Short- to Medium-Term Views and Momentum Assessment

In the short term, UOB’s 24-hour view initially anticipated USD/SGD to trade between 1.2765 and 1.2790. However, the pair’s rise to 1.2814 exceeded this range, suggesting some upward momentum. Despite this, the bank cautions that the momentum is insufficient to sustain a continued rise above 1.2820 or to challenge the resistance at 1.2835.

From a 1-3 week perspective, UOB had turned negative on the USD against SGD earlier in the week but observed that the pair traded mostly sideways within a range. While downward momentum had started to slow, the possibility of testing 1.2750 remained, though a sustained decline below this level was considered unlikely. The break above 1.2795 indicated a shift toward range-trading, with the pair expected to oscillate between 1.2775 and 1.2835 without a clear directional bias.

FXVNPro Market Perspective

Market participants should consider that the USD/SGD exchange rate is influenced by a combination of short-term momentum and technical support and resistance levels. The limited momentum above 1.2820 and the presence of resistance at 1.2835 suggest that upward moves may be capped unless new fundamental drivers emerge. Conversely, support around 1.2800 and 1.2790 could provide a floor for the pair, preventing sharp declines.

Any sustained break above 1.2871 would be a significant technical event, potentially signaling a shift in market sentiment and allowing for a broader range expansion. However, absent such a breakout, the pair is likely to remain range-bound, reflecting a balance between USD strength and SGD resilience.

Trading Scenarios

  • If USD/SGD manages to break and hold above the resistance at 1.2835, then it could test the next resistance level at 1.2871. A sustained move beyond this level may indicate a shift toward a stronger USD bias against SGD.
  • If the pair fails to maintain levels above 1.2800 and falls below 1.2790, then it may revisit lower support levels near 1.2775, though a sustained decline below 1.2750 is considered unlikely based on current momentum.

What Traders Should Watch

Traders should monitor the USD/SGD price action around the key technical levels of 1.2800 (support), 1.2835 (resistance), and the critical breakout point at 1.2871. Additionally, shifts in short-term momentum indicators and any fundamental developments affecting USD or SGD could influence the pair’s range-bound behavior. Given the limited momentum for sustained directional moves, traders may consider range-trading strategies while remaining alert to potential breakout signals.
